Wax and Resin ribbons are a combination of wax and resin-based colorant substances, with a higher proportion of resin-based substances. Ribbons made of wax or resin consist of two or more layers. Resin substances have a higher melting point, thereby enhancing the ribbon’s melting point. Wax or Resin ribbons require a higher heat or energy setting for printing than wax ribbons. As waxes are softer than resins, the image durability, chemical resistance, and abrasion, smudge, and scuff resistance of wax-based ribbons are superior. Additionally, they ensure outstanding edge definition. Wax or Resin ribbons can be used on synthetic materials with lustrous or smooth surfaces. Wax and Resin ribbons are capable of achieving print velocities of 16 inches per second. Wax or Resin ribbons can be used for all applications where wax ribbons are typically used but where abrasion or scratching may occur due to contact. Wax and Resin ribbons are more costly than wax ribbons.
